Scholarships
Academic Merit Awards: Father Cyprian Nusca Scholarship
Fr. Cyprian Nusca, O.SS.T., was one of the founders of DeMatha Catholic High School when it opened 1946. Scholarships worth $8,000 over four years are awarded to incoming freshmen based on academic excellence, as determined by school performance and High School Placement Test results. To be eligible for this award, a student must list DeMatha as one of two choices of Catholic High Schools when applying for admission. All applicants are considered for these awards if application is made by December 15. A separate application for this award is not needed.
Art Awards: Anthony N. Fotos Art Award
Mr. Anthony Fotos, now retired, was a Fine Arts teacher at DeMatha for forty-one years. DeMatha honors him and his contribution to the Art Program by awarding $500 art scholarships to five entering freshmen. The award is based on an evaluation of the student's art portfolio by the Art Department Chairperson. An application is sent to the student when "Art Award" is checked on admission applications that are received by December 15th.
Music Awards: John L. Moylan Music Award
Mr. John Moylan joined DeMatha in 1956 and served as principal from September 1968 to June of 2000. In 1970, Mr. Moylan established the DeMatha Band program that has grown to include over a third of the student body. Music Scholarships are available to students who show exceptional talent. Students must apply by December 15 and check "Band Award" on the application for admission. Notification of auditions will be sent to the student.
Tuition Assistance
From DeMatha
DeMatha awards partial tuition work-study grants based on family financial need in the form of DeMatha Grants. Applications for this form of aid must be submitted by December 15 prior to the year of attendance. The FACTS Management Company processes all financial aid applications. Applications can be made by obtaining paper forms from DeMatha or by applying online at http://www.factstuitionaid.com after November 1, 2008. Students who receive DeMatha Grants perform duties during school or after school hours.
Students applying for DeMatha Grants must also apply for Archdiocese of Washington aid.
From Archdiocese of Washington
Each year, the Archdiocese of Washington provides need-based aid for students attending Catholic high schools. The application for aid from the Archdiocese is separate from the application for DeMatha aid. Information and application forms are available at http://www.catholicschoolswork.org/ or from Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Washington. Deadline for aid applications is December 5, 2008.
